* Characteristics:-
(1) Speed:-
It is a very fast calculating device. It performs million of calculation in a very short time. It can do work in few seconds which a simple person can do so many days.
micro seconds = 10-6
nano seconds = 10-9
pico seconds = 10-12
(2) Accuracy:-
A computer is a very accurate machine. The degree of accuracy of every calculation in the computer is very high and every calculation is performed with the same accuracy. It always generates error less hundred percent (100%) result.
(3) Storage:-
A computer can store the bulk of data for a long period of time and can retrieve it in future when we need it. Every piece of information can be retained as long as desired by the user and can we record as and when required.
(4) Diligence:-
A computer is free of tired, lack of concentration, fatigue etc. It can do repeated work automatically for many hours without creating any error.
(5) Versatility:-
It means the capability to perform completely different types of work in different areas. You may also use your computer in different areas such as in preparing payroll slip, electricity bill, inventory management etc.
* Limitations:-
(1) No intelligence:-
A computer is a dumb machine and it can not do any work without instructions from the user. It is you to decide what you want to do and in the word sequence. So a computer can't do work itself as you can. It has no intelligence of its own. Its intelligence is zero(0).
(2) No experience:-
A computer does not have feelings or emotions, knowledge and experience. So, it does not get tired even after a long period of time. It does not distinguish between users that are everyone is same for a computer.
